SPRING BREAK TRAVEL
I know parents are wondering about travel for Spring Break.
The SUPT has ordered no overseas travel to countries with a CDC rating of 2 for the month of March for leisure travel and no overseas at all for official travel for the month of March.    On domestic travel the SUPT strongly recommends checking the CDC website before travel and to rethink going to places that the CDC says are hot spots.

NOTE FROM SUPERINTENDENT ON COVID-19 (CORONAVIRUS)Good day,

Below is a note that the Superintendent sent out to staff on the Coronavirus.  Please note there is a website for updates that Parents can check for updates.

*****************************************
Novel Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) continues to spread and is an increasing force health protection threat worldwide. This is a dynamic situation; we are closely monitoring and preparing for any impacts to our mission.  USAFA and surrounding installations are currently deemed “low risk,” but the most important thing we can do to prevent infection is to avoid being exposed to this virus. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) continues to stress general precautions to prevent the spread of communicable diseases: wash your hands often and cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze. If you are sick, please coordinate with your chain of command and stay home or in your dorm room.
We are not going to wait for a crisis to develop before we take steps to educate and safeguard our military and civilian personnel and family members in preventing wide spread outbreak. I have established a working group that will assess geographic risks and provide USAFA specific recommendations. Similarly, we created a webpage www.USAFA.EDU/news/coronavirus that will cover some basics on COVID-19, list current travel restrictions, and provide resources. The webpage will be updated as new information, guidance, and restrictions emerge. All personnel should continue to check for updated restrictions prior to overseas travel; restrictions may change with little notice.
Thank you in advance for taking every precaution to protect yourself and others against this virus. If you have questions or need additional information on the above, please reach out to Public Health at usaf.usafa.10-mdg.mbx.public-health@mail.mil.

Denver Airport USO
FYI, the Denver Airport has an outstanding Uniformed Services Organization (USO) that is available to Cadets, veterans, active duty, and dependents. All Cadets are eligible and the Denver USO makes a great place to layover while awaiting flights. Registration is easy and all services are complimentary as the USO is staffed by volunteers. The Denver USO is one of the best in the nation, and has sleeping areas, lounge chairs, big screen TV, and computer access. https://denver.uso.org/denver-international-airport

Chapel Closes for Repairs
The Cadet Chapel closed it's doors on the afternoon of September 4 for an extensive renovation which is expected to last for at least three years. The chapel was completed in 1963. The original structure experienced some short cuts due to budget constraints which resulted in leaks. These leaks have damaged the interior of the chapel including the pews and organ. The entire chapel will be striped down so that rain gutters can be installed. At the completion of the project, the chapel will be like new! The furniture and organ will also be renovated.  The chapel is one of Colorado's most visited landmarks.  Cadets will be provided with alternative locations to worship during the renovation.

Parent Weekend 2019 is a wrap!
USAFA rolled out the red carpet and welcomed thousands of parents and relatives for the school's annual Parents' Weekend event September 2 -5. Parent weekend is one of the busiest weekends at the academy. PANCA had several families present.  On Thursday, we hosted the HAPS social in Arnold Hall where our parents had the opportunity to see their cadets a day before everyone else.  The evening was filled with love and laughter. Friday morning, parents were treated to an air show demonstration which featured USAFA Flying Team. The Wings of Blue jumped onto the parade field and the Saber Team and Falconry Club did their thing. After the parade, squadrons hosted parents at the squad picnics and then the cadets were off to class; giving parents some time to shop in Arnold Hall. Saturday morning began with the squadron tailgate and then the game.  USAFA crushed Cologate, 48-7 for their first victory of the season.  After the game, cadets headed off with parents to spend the rest of the weekend as they choose. The weekend concluded Monday when the cadets had to be back on academy grounds by 7:50 pm. Talk about a great weekend!

PANCA Hosts General Silveria for a Meet and Greet
Our Parents Association was pleased to host General Silveria on July 25 when he was in town. These opportunities to hear the latest about life at USAFA or network with other parents are a benefit of membership with our organization.
